about us

The restaurant Na Baště (formerly Café Poet) is situated on the northwest edge of the Prague Castle in the Na Baště Garden, the jewel of the Castle’s gardens. The garden was renovated by the world-renown architect Josip Plečnik in the style of Italian and Japanese gardens and in 2002 was awarded the Carlo Scarpa International Prize. The garden has an entrance to the Spanish Hall, while the garden itself is accessible from the Prašný most (Powder Bridge), then around the north wing of the Castle above the Horní jelení příkop (Upper Deer Moat), or from the opposite direction if coming from Hradčanské náměstí. The garden is open all year round and entrance is free.

The interior of the restaurant Na Baště was renovated in March 2003 and reopened on April 10th to offer its services to visitors to the Castle. There is seating for 90 guests inside the restaurant and for a further 100 in the restaurant’s garden, which features teak furniture. The regular opening hours are from 10:00 till 18:00, but are flexible upon arrangement. The restaurant offers a wide range of hot meals, baguettes, toasted sandwiches, salads, pastries and puddings. Permanent items on the menu include the obligatory apple strudel with nuts and cream, several types of coffee and original Budweiser beer on draught. Prices are average compared to other cafés and restaurants in the Castle and its immediate environs.
